| Description: |
This is an amazing Porsche Reutter Coupe built July of 1952 currently finished in Pascha Red (one of only 417 manufactured from April to September 1952). Restoration was completed in 1994 and was done with great attention to authenticity. Any 356 built after September 1952 was a 1953 model with twin beehive taillights, 2-spoke steering wheel with Porsche crest and A bumpers. This car has several features which make it rare and special. The main feature is the "interim" bumpers used for export on 1952 model. These bumpers were so-called export bumpers destined for cars delivered to the U.S. Importer Max Hoffman felt the original type bumpers from 1950 to 1951 were not sufficiently high or strong to fend off the American vehicles. These bumpers are separated from the body and wrap around to a much larger extent than the "A" type bumpers which were used as of model year 1953 beginning in October 1952. Interim bumpers were used for less than one year and only on cars exported to North America. The transmission is the original 4-speed "crashbox", which is non synchronized and double declutching is absolutely required when shifting. The 1952 engine is a 1300 cc, fully but authentically rebuilt with "mushroom" air cleaners, no oil filter, a flat-top distributor with wire clips, and fuel filter, and it puts out about 45 Horse Power. The tires are very narrow 5.00/5.25 and are mounted on original 3.25? x 16? rims. Firestone Champion Deluxe were selected (whitewall tires were always an option on all 356's, although rarely chosen). The car is a joy to drive on the highway but a real handful in city traffic. It cruises along nicely at 65 mph. This early 356 is truly in stunning condition over all and can be shown and will always stand alone in a crowd of other 356s or it is a perfect 356 to add to your collection. | ||
